A portrait of David Beckham, composed of thousands of pieces of bric a brac, is among the eye-catching exhibits in the Mill Gallery's current exhibition. Entitled "Going Green", the exhibition features west country artists who use recycled objects and materials in their art. The Beckham portrait is one of a series of Pop Art-style pieces created by artist Jane Perkins, who forages recycling centres for the throw-away items she uses to construct her work. A number of Jane's portraits of iconic personalities are being shown at the Mill, alongside her "Memory Brooches" which are custom-made jewellery featuring collected memorabilia for the wearer to treasure.
Other exhibitors include: Veronica Gosling, who works with sculpture, assemblage and pottery decoration to create humorous, quirky artworks; environmental artist Lauren Ballard, who creates endearing 3D sheep from plastic bags, wire and willow, to highlight the environmental impact of discarded rubbish; and Amy McCarthy, a mixed media and stained glass artist, who makes mosaic-like pictures of sea-life using glass, jewellery and fabric.
The exhibition runs from Sat 6th March to Mon 19th April. For further information, and to see photos of some of the exhibited artworks, click here.
