A Thoroughly English Evening of Outdoor Theatre

Audiences at East Devon's Otterton Mill enjoyed a thoroughly English evening of outdoor theatre last Saturday, when The Idle Theme Theatre Company performed Oscar Wilde's hilarious play An Ideal Husband to a packed house. The play was performed in the Mill's historic courtyard setting against the back-drop of the Mill stream. Theatre-goers also enjoyed a BBQ served under the setting sun prior to the performance.

The Idle Theme Theatre Company is based in the South West and is renowned for bringing theatre to often-unusual theatrical spaces. The 2010 summer season has been no exception, as the company has staged Oscar Wilde plays in Sidmouth's Sidholme Hotel, Leigh House in Winsham, Exeter's Poltimore House and finally Otterton Mill. Artistic Director, Alec Fellows-Bennett, said "Saturday's performance was our season finale in what has been a highly successful run. It's the first time we've performed in the Mill's courtyard, and it was the perfect setting for Wilde's quintessentially English play".

Mill owner Simon Spiller said "This is the 3rd year we've offered Theatre & Food evenings at the Mill, and they are always highly popular. Saturday's performance featured very strong acting, fantastic costumes and a magical setting. We've already booked The Idle Theme Theatre Company for summer 2011".

Alec will also return to the Mill for a one-man show of Ghost Stories on Saturday 30th October. This pre-halloween evening (to be held in the Mill's restaurant) promises a terrifying evening of dramatic readings of stories by craftsmen of terror and suspense, including Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and M.R. James. The show will be preceded by dinner.
