Otterton Mill is an award winning, privately owned, visitor attraction in the heart of the East Devon countryside. It comprises an ancient working watermill, artisan bakery, café-restaurant, Devon food shop, music venue and art and craft shop.
We have just completed a refurbishment of our restaurant and kitchen, and are about to launch a transformation of the retail space within our Mill building. At this exciting stage in our development, we are looking for people to join our team within the following key roles.
Head Chef and Assistant Head Chef
Our award-winning café-restaurant celebrates the best of Devon produce. Our food is freshly prepared daily within our kitchen and artisan bakery, using local, seasonal ingredients, sourced largely from within 30 miles of the Mill. The emphasis is on tasty, appealing dishes, offering great value for money. We are open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm, serving food throughout the day. We also run a number of evening entertainment events and private functions.
We are looking for chefs with proven management experience to lead our kitchen. The use of locally sourced and seasonal produce in a creative and imaginative way, whilst offering value for money for our customers is essential. You'll need strong people management skills, so you can inspire, teach and motivate your team. You should be capable of working with budgets and achieving GP margins. You will work closely with the Restaurant Manager, and should be a strong team player. You'll need to remain calm and focused under pressure, and handle high volumes during our busy tourist season.
You will work 5 out of 7 days a week, including weekends. Hours are mainly daytime, with the occasional evenings. Salary dependent on experience.
Restaurant Manager
You will be responsible for managing the operation and staffing of the Mill's busy Front of House service in our Café-Restaurant, as well as overseeing the kitchen operations. You'll need to demonstrate a proven track record in the industry (including cafés and coffee bars), and be able to lead and motivate a team through training, management and example. Strong people management skills are essential. Ideally, you'll be barista trained, and demonstrate a passion for customer service, and a desire to maintain the highest standards of quality and excellence. You'll be friendly and warm, with a genuine interest in people and the ability to engage with customers of all ages. You should be capable of working with budgets and achieving targets. You'll have excellent attention to detail for the organisation and delivery of special event bookings, and the maintenance of the restaurant's internal and external environment.

Adminstrator/Events Co-ordinator
You'll be an experienced administrator or PA. The role has responsibility for all of the company's administrative functions, including finance and HR, to ensure the smooth functioning of the business and effective support for the owners. You'll also organise and promote Otterton Mill's programme of courses, workshops and special events. You'll be a fast worker, but with a keen eye for detail, resourceful and motivated and with excellent communication skills. You'll be friendly, service-oriented, and with strong computer skills. Ideally, you'll have experience with marketing communications, as you'll provide support with writing press releases, website and Facebook updates. You'll be calm and level-headed, and relish the challenges, opportunities and variety presented by working within a small company. Trustworthiness and discretion are essential.
This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to work the occasional weekend day for special events. Salary dependent on experience.
