A Celebration of Wild Food

A Celebration of Wild Food

Saturday 27th March 2010

This signature Mill festival is now in its 2nd year.  From small beginnings in 2009, we're running the 2010 event in collaboration with James Chubb, the Wildlife Ranger for the East Devon District Council.  James is a well-respected and very popular figure in the region from his regular newspaper columns and public work.  We're delighted to be working with him.

The festival is a free-entry family event with a host of activities showcasing wild and foraged foods.  See below for the schedule for the day (timings may vary on day).

11am - Foraging Workshop with local experts Robin Harford and Chris Holland
12pm - A short illustrated presentation by James Chubb entitled ‘Edible Sea shore', followed by a Cookery Demonstration by our Executive Chef Ed Chester.  Ed will be cooking up tasty dishes with fresh water eels from Exmouth.
1pm - 1.30pm - Flying display with Birds of Prey
2pm - A Wild Food Cookery Demonstration with Ed Chester, using ingredients supplied by Capreolus Fine Foods (who produce smoked meats) and foraged foods provided by Robin Harford
3pm - Close Encounters with Birds of Prey

Between 12 to 3pm, our Restaurant will serve a delicious selection of lunchtime specials using wild foods.

Throughout the day, our Devon Food Shop will offer tastings of Lyme Bay wild wines, as well as  the game pies of Tom's Pies.

A number of suppliers will also be represented in our outside areas, including Capreolus Fine Foods with their range of smoked meats and Clinton Devon Estates with a selection of locally caught meat.

Wildlife organisations, the Devon Wildlife Trust and the RSPB, will also have stands offering information, advice and membership.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Timing:  11am to 3pm.

Free entry.
