Music: Kimmie Rhodes

Wednesday 8th December 2010

[SOLD OUT]

From Texas, Grammy-nominated Kimmie has had her multi-platinum selling songs recorded by everyone from Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd and Trisha Yearwood, to Mark Knopfler. Her brand of lyrical Americana is utterly beautiful. "When I hear Kimmie sing it makes me know what the phrase ‘pulling on your heart strings' means." (Waylon Jennings).

In our season finale, Kimmie plays from her new Christmas-themed album, which will be showcased with BBC's Bob Harris on 6th December at Christ Church Cathedral.  The album was conceived one Christmas years ago, as Kimmie watched country legend Willie Nelson open multiple packages all containing platinum records of his beloved song, Pretty Paper.  Inspired by the moment, Kimmie pledged to write a holiday song every year.  Now, as a gift to her friends worldwide, she and her son Gabe Rhodes have collaborated on brilliant new productions of those songs, "Miracles On Christmas Day". This group of new recordings also includes a cover of Patty Griffin's beautiful Mary and two intriguing classics, Carol of the Bells, (an ancient pagan Ukrainian chant), and What Child is This (set to Greensleeves).

In celebration of the release, scheduled for Nov 15th, Kimmie and virtuoso guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, Gabe, will be treating fans to a very special show, the perfect pre-holiday feast for music lovers hungry for soulful lyrics, and her legion of fans who have come to love her gritty-to-whimsical music in all its subtle, complex glory. In addition to songs from the new CD, Kimmie also plans to "unveil" a few of her just written new songs never heard before and also promises a few sing-a-long holiday classics as well.
