British folk stalwarts Kevin and Karen delight audiences with their beautiful mix of tunes and song. Playing her 72 bass Pigini piano accordion, Karen straddles traditional Irish to classical, in a uniquely haunting, emotive, yet vibrant style. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Kevin is a true craftsman, whose warm, lyrical style, and fresh, rhythmic approach have brought collaborations with Dave Swarbrick to Percy Sledge!
Karen continues to repaint a whole new landscape for the accordion with her own compositions, reworking of traditional ideas and stories and sometimes whacky interpretations. Known for collaborative work with Kathryn Tickell, The Poozies, SWAP and May Monday, her haunting and versatile playing has enhanced the sound of many a fine band and duo. She moves with ease from emotive and soulful melodies to vibrant, dynamic and occasionally wonky and offbeat accordion lines.
Kevin, as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer, has played in memorable line-ups with the likes of Dave Swarbrick, Joe Broughton, Peter Knight, Uiscedwr and Mary Black, (not to mention, those folk giants, The Marvelettes, Percy Sledge, Alice Coltrane and more!) He is renowned for delivering fresh and vibrant arrangements of traditional and contemporary tunes and his vocals bring both meaning and feeling to the lyrics. He will always seek the most sensitive chord, the perfect arrangement, the ultimate lyrical sound or sheer driving rhythm, all to blend seamlessly into great pieces of music.
